There's a reason why Kim Fields opted out of filming the last few episodes of Living Single
The last season of Living Single had a completely different vibe. Although the humor and majority of the main cast were still there, new additions and the disappearance of two cast members left a hole in some of the plots. Once T. C. Carson left the series, the show's audience did not see Max and his character, Kyle Barker, get closure until the last episode.
Another main character didn't even appear in the series finale. Kim Fields was Regine Hunter, and although she was a gold digger, the character completed a group of totally different friends. When she and Max bickered, it was hilarious.
In the final season, viewers saw her for a bit, and she finally got the ring she'd been tirelessly waiting for since the show's first episode. However, after that, she sort of disappeared.
During an interview with Bustle in 2021, Kim Fields explained why she left the series. "My life at that moment was not what you would expect. I left Living Single a few episodes shy of completing the final season because the work, the process, and everything else didn't feel the same for me. I was, at that point, either divorced or about to be divorced. I started a production company, and we had all these great projects but no deals," she said.
"I went through a stage where I completely shut down. I had these blackout drapes in my house, and I closed the drapes and stayed in the bed for about two weeks, maybe longer. I kept running down my resume to God: I'm a tither, I'm a worshiper, I'm faithful, I'm a good person, I was a good kid — all the things that should not equal me being here. I didn't claim depression, but if I'm being real with myself, I'm sure there was a little bit of that there."
