Tia Mowry didn't revive her role on The Game because there ''wasn't much else for Melanie to do''

When we first saw Melanie on The Game, the character was adjusting to life as an NFL player's girlfriend while juggling being a medical student. If she wasn't studying, she attended Sun Beam meetings with Tasha Mack, Malik's mom, and Kelly, Jason's (the team's vet) wife.

It was a journey for Melanie, getting accustomed to the company of a group of seemingly superficial women, a strong-willed mother, and a wife with a frugal husband. Viewers witnessed her character evolve and adapt throughout the series.

Despite the tumultuous relationship with Derwin, portrayed by Pooch Hall, which was marred by a cheating scandal and a lack of support for each other's aspirations, the couple eventually found their way back as one and tied the knot.

The Game returned on different networks for new seasons many times after being canceled, but the main characters weren't around. In an interview with TV Line in 2021, Tia Mowry explained why she didn't need to revive her character.

"I loved Melanie. I loved playing every bit of her; I don't think I'm going back at this point. As I've gotten older, I try to do things that have impact and that are purposeful and inspirational in some kind of way in my life. There are things I like to focus on, and those are the things I put time and energy into."

She added, "I don't feel like there is much else for Melanie to do and say. She's had such an incredible story… Everything I do has a beginning and an end, and once that chapter is over with, it's time to start a new one."
