Countess Vaughn and Usher had a sing-off on Vibe Magazine's 1997 late-night show

Vibe Magazine's short-lived late-night talk show, Vibe, was truly a vibe. Hosted by comedian and actor Sinbad, the show featured some of the hottest young Black talent. It even had an appearance from then-president Bill Clinton in the first episode. Vibe attracted a young, urban audience and gave them a glimpse of the actors behind their favorite sitcoms.

In 1997, Countess Vaughn (Kim Parker on Moesha and The Parkers) and teen R&B/Pop sensation Usher popped up on the late-night show and made it one to remember. As soon as Countess Vaughn walked out, she stole the show. She danced to the stage and had a warm embrace with Usher. That was followed by both trying to out-sing each other (in a fun, nostalgic way), using lyrics from one of Usher's hit songs.

After they got through playfully having a singing battle, Usher said, "This my baby, though, for real. When we were on Moesha, we did it." The singer guest starred in a few episodes as Jeremy Davis, Moesha's love interest. Countess also chimed in and said, "This is the homie."

They actually had another thing in common: Vaughn and Usher were both on Star Search, a competition-based television series that began in 1983 (hosted by Ed McMahon). Sinbad cut to a video of Vaughn singing as a child on the show, to which she playfully walked off the stage.

The entire interview, which can be seen on YouTube, serves as a time capsule. From Vaughn's hair and makeup to Usher's appearance and the star power of both, Black productions and actors thrived in the decade.
