Erika Alexander was embarrassed while filming this Living Single scene

Warner Bros.

Many longed for Maxine Shaw's confidence in Living Single. She was a successful, beautiful law attorney who could make men fall to her knees with a snap of a finger—well, all except one. When we were introduced to "Kyle Barker vs. Maxine Shaw," the sitcom's audience didn't know what they were in for.

However, they quickly saw the two banter and eventually fall in love. It's one of the most classic enemies-to-lovers storylines, and we just couldn't get enough of it. Whenever the stockbroker and law attorney interacted, viewers saw sparks through the screen—that's how talented T.C. Carson and Erika Alexander were. Their on-screen chemistry made their scenes look like a behind-the-scenes clip of a real love story.

Erika Alexander, who played Shaw, told TODAY.com in 2023 that one specific scene with Carson embarrassed her.

"Singing the Blues" is from season 2, episode 15. While Khadijah is nervous about an on-camera interview, Kyle enters a talent contest and sings. He finds himself nervous when Maxine arrives in a stunning dress. After that, he eventually runs off-stage.

A little later in the episode, Kyle aims to bring his confidence back, and he does that, plus a little more. He serenades Shaw with "My Funny Valentine," and not only does it leave Maxine speechless, but Erika Alexander felt something, too.

"People don't know: I was actually very embarrassed," she told TODAY.com. "Look at (Queen) Latifah, and they're just looking at me like this," she said, making googly eyes. "They're in it. And they're not in it as their characters. They're in it as themselves. That's their personality, the way that Dana was looking at us."

"I never said [it], but I looked at it and realized how embarrassing it was to do that scene in front of them," she added.
