Essence Atkins revealed how she felt working with Ice Cube on Are We There Yet?

20th Television

We hear rumors all the time about how legends act behind the scenes. Sometimes, we put them on a pedestal, and they remind us that they're humans and want to be treated like regular beings. Other times, we hear the words "diva," "rude," and "demanding" thrown around in stories about what it was like to meet a legend.

Ice Cube fans should be happy to know that, according to Essence Atkins, he wasn't like that while filming Are We There Yet?

"I love it. It's a bit intimidating because he's legendary, and the man has been relevant since the '80s," Atkins told Essence in an interview. "As an artist, you can't help but take pause and notice that someone has continued to evolve and challenge himself in music and now in television and film. So in that sense, it's intimidating but he's hilarious."

She continued, "I love playing his little sister. He brings great energy and is really supportive. And people sleep on the fact that he's been married to his wife for almost 18 years. And they have a successful family, so he gets what the show is about."

Are We There Yet? fans know that in the movies, Ice Cube stars as Nick Persons, the boyfriend of Suzanne Kingston (originally played by Nia Long). He wants to impress her by offering to take her kids on a long road trip, yet he's in for a rude awakening.
