Here's why Kyle Barker left for London in season five of Living Single

Warner Bros.

Living Single's audience was stunned when Kyle Barker announced that he had a job opportunity in London. His departure reduced the six friends to five (although he made a guest star appearance when it was revealed that Max was pregnant). The writers added Mel Jackson's character "Tripp" as Khadijah and Regine's new roommate to fill T.C. Carson's void, but it didn't get the reaction they thought it would.

There were many rumors about why T.C. Carson left the show, some outlandish and some that could've been true. In 2020, during an interview with Comedy Hype, the actor finally revealed what happened.

"I got fired," he said. "There were times when we had issues on the show. We would come to them as a cast, but I would be the spokesperson for it."

The actor continued, "And so, that last season before I left, they called me in and they basically said, 'Well, all these problems we've been having, they listen to you. You're the person they listen to. So if you said something else, then they would do that.' I looked at them and said, 'Well, first of all, we're dealing with five grown people, and they have their own mindset and own ideas about what we're doing. Everything we come to you with is a group decision, not my decision. But if you think I have that much power, then I need to have a different job.' I don't think they liked that."

Instead of killing off his character, which would not have been popular with the cast members and Living Single's audience, the show's writers shipped Kyle Barker off to London.

The situation didn't stop Carson from obtaining roles; in fact, he still voices a well-known Star Wars character.
