Pooch Hall on leaving The Game: "It was definitely tough saying goodbye"

CBS Television Distribution

When we first saw Melanie and Derwin on The Game, they began their new journey in San Diego. Derwin just got drafted to the San Diego Sabers, and Melanie was enrolled in medical school. The two faced various challenges throughout their relationship as each character's dreams became more of a personal focus.

Through the ups and downs, the couple always found their way back to a web of love. This was the primary focus of The Game, although the plots also followed other characters like Jason and Kelly Pitts and Malik and Tasha Mack. However, the show went through a series of cancellations and revivals, and fans found themselves once again watching the athletes and their drama, but the main characters, Melanie and Derwin, were not around as often.

When the series returned on BET Networks, viewers saw an episode in which Derwin found out that he was getting traded to a different team after the Sabers drafted a new wide receiver.

Pooch Hall, who played Derwin Davis, said leaving the show was tough, but he was proud of his work and thanked the fans who were consistently watching.

"I'm thankful [I got] to close my character out over on The Game on BET. I want the fans to know how thankful I am, because we couldn't do any of what we're doing without them. It was definitely tough saying goodbye, because I'd been doing that show for so long," he said during an interview with Paste Magazine.

"But as an actor, you're trying to take on as many characters as you can...So it felt good to say goodbye to The Game, but I want to thank the fans for allowing me to have those five seasons, and to be where I am in my career now."
