Tequan Richmond got his ''first real'' acting job in 2002

CBS Television Distribution

Everyone hated Chris, not his little brother, Drew. If you watch the Chris Rock series, you know that everything Chris wanted somehow went to his brother. Drew always got the girl, the popularity and was even treated better by their family. Tequan Richmond played the part perfectly, and perhaps his earlier roles prepped him for success.

In 2002, the actor appeared in the ER episode "Chaos Theory." It was his first real acting job. "Honestly, it was a passion of my mom's," the 20-year-old told Interview Magazine in 2013. Richmond was referring to acting, as it wasn't something he dreamed about doing as a child, but it became his job.

"She didn't move me out here so I could [act], but it just happened." He got the role in ER quicker than it takes most people to snag their first roles in the industry. "That's when I realized I didn't know how to take directions," the actor laughs. "I only had two lines, and [the director] asked me to take it a different way—my mom was like, 'Why do you keep saying it the way he told you not to?'"

Eventually, he got the groove of saying his lines correctly, and more roles came rolling in, including appearances on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Law and Mr. Lee (a CBS pilot), and MadTV in 2003. He would also appear on Cold Case, Strong Medicine, and The Shield before getting his first series regular role as Drew Rock on Everybody Hates Chris.
