Ranking Joan Clayton's boyfriends from best to worst
Joan Clayton had it all figured out: she had her dream career, and all that was missing was a husband and kids. In the first episode, we watch the character, played by Tracee Ellis Ross, enter her late twenties, stressing about being behind. She thought she should've been married by then. But planning your life doesn't guarantee it will go that way; we all know that. Joan's obsession with becoming a wife is probably why she was the last of her friends to get engaged or married.
Lynn married William, which was very unserious, and later, he married Monica. Toni married Todd, which made Joan jealous because Toni was getting everything she wanted. Maya married the same man, Darnell, twice. She was the first in the group to have a husband; they were together for years before she met the friend group.
All this happened before Joan found her true love, Aaron, and they got engaged in season seven's finale. She finally got her ring for real, but we never saw her walk down the aisle. In the second episode of season eight, Aaron's National Guard unit was called to Iraq. So Joan spent the rest of the season alone as a fiancée, and in the final episode, she got a message that Aaron was returning home.
AND THEN, the show was canceled. From day one, Girlfriends fans saw Joan with endings that were never fully happy. So here we are, ranking her boyfriends from best to worst because, why not?
Aaron
All Girlfriends fans applaud Aaron for giving Joan what she wanted so badly.
William
These besties should never have been in a relationship. They looked awkward together, but William treated Joan right.
Ellis
After accepting that he had a kid, Joan and Ellis were doing well. He helped her overcome jealousy of Toni. But when Brock came around, Ellis's time was up!
Brock
Dating your ex's agent is never a good idea. Brock was supposed to be the one, but he didn't want kids.
Kenneth
The age gap was too big, but he was a nice man.
Davis
He was never her boyfriend, but the chemistry was undeniable. If he didn’t have a fiancée, he would’ve been perfect for Joan.
Sean
He had the nerve to tell Joan she was too much as if he wasn't an addict. Watch the show on Dabl to see what he was addicted to.
Frank
This man was married; therefore, he's automatically the worst!
