Did you know Chico Benymon from Half & Half was also a musician?

CBS Television Distribution

We all know him as Spencer, Mona's bestie and...lowkey soulmate? On Half & Half, Chico Benymon played a ride-or-die bestfriend and wasn't afraid to be honest with Mona when she showed her crazy side. He also always had her back and comprehended her misunderstood moments.

But did you know that Benymon is a singer and began his career in a group in 1999? The R&B/Hip-hop group was named Trā-Knox (creative, right?) and was Will Smith's protégé, which they signed to his label in 2000. Trā-Knox appeared on the actor/rapper's studio albums Willennium and Born to Reign. They even appeared on the Wild Wild West and Men In Black II soundtracks.

In 2002, their best-known hit, "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)," peaked at number 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but eventually, they decided to break up.

Benymon sought after television roles and, not too long after, found himself on a few episodes of Moesha before snagging his defining role as Spencer on Half & Half in 2002.

Just because his acting career took off didn't mean his love for music faded. Benymon's journey from a group member to a solo artist is truly inspiring. He eventually released an independent album in 2019 titled Don't Talk, Just Listen, showcasing his determination and passion for music.
