Would you be friends with Joan, Maya, Toni and Lynn? Most people said no.

Let’s be honest: If you could be friends with characters from '90s and '00s sitcoms or dramas, most people probably wouldn’t choose the women from Girlfriends. Sure, they’re all beautiful and talented in their own ways, but they were definitely messy. You see it right from the first episode, when Joan throws a birthday party (for herself) and her best friend Toni decides to date her ex, Charles, and even brings him to the party.

And that was only the beginning. As the show goes on, the group gossips about each other’s secrets, Joan accidentally tells Toni’s boyfriend Greg, a struggling painter, that Toni is engaged to someone else, and there are plenty of petty arguments too. All the drama made for great TV, but when we asked our Dabl community on social media if they’d want to join the group, the same answer showed up: "absolutely not."

In fact, when given the choice between hanging out with the Girlfriends or the Living Single crew, most people said they’d rather spend time with Khadijah, Max, Regine, and Synclaire than with Joan, Maya, Toni, and Lynn.
