Being the star of Moesha made Brandy hesitant to make mistakes
Do you remember what Craig's dad said when he got fired in the classic comedy film Friday? "The word of the day is: Job. J-O-B."
As a society, it's not our "J-O-B" to judge childhood stars for their mistakes as adults trying to grow out of that kid-ish image. Because, newsflash, we're all human! We ALL have the opportunity to learn and grow. The only difference is that childhood stars grow up in the public eye; they barely know what privacy is.
Just imagine the pressure Brandy had to endure as the star of Moesha as a teen. Not many celebrities can enjoy massive success in television and music at the same time, but she did. And, of course, that came with challenges.
In 2020, Brandy was on the digital cover of PEOPLE Magazine, celebrating the release of her seventh album. During her interview with the publication, she talked about what it was truly like being a childhood star.
"I struggled with being put in a box of perfection," she said. "I felt like my mistakes would let down everyone if I made them. I had to make the transition from being a teenager to a woman and figure out what direction I was going to go in."
She continued, "I felt like I didn't have the space to grow and to grow up in a safe way. I had to deal with so many other opinions about what I should do, how I should be and what I should look like. And that can get tough when you're trying to find your own voice."
