The cast of Moesha used to make ''corny'' references to Brandy's hit songs

Friends can joke around with each other; it's the beauty of a true friendship. It's even better when coworkers turn into those friends, creating a work environment free of drama. The cast of Moesha had their fair share of drama, rumors, and whatever else the press claimed happened, but they also had fun on set.

While many in the cast joined the sitcom as new talent, up-and-coming actors, and veterans who got their start on Broadway, Brandy was a pop star who wanted to take a swing at acting. She had a massive influence, and it was the perfect way to show how versatile she could be.

Being a platinum-selling singer before filming means room for corny jokes and song references, right? That's what the Moesha cast did. While the series started to kick off in 1996, the Daily Press interviewed many of them to discuss their excitement. Lamont Bently, who played Hakeem, and Yvette Wilson, who played Andell, were the main jokesters.

"She called me up and said, 'I know you haven't been working. I just want you to be down. If I'm getting ready to blow up, and I'm gonna try and drag y'all along,'" Wilson said jokingly.

Bently said, "Instead of sitting up in your room," which the article called a "corny" reference to one of Brandy's songs.

Wilson added, "Instead of getting that cassette, go and upgrade to the CD. It's like she's sitting in the room with you. Feel the vibe of it all. Buy two CDs, one for a friend."

Their chemistry offscreen was a key ingredient in their onscreen chemistry, which is why many scenes from the show still go viral today.
