This short-lived ABC show was Flex Alexander's first television role
Dabl believes in giving our legends their flowers while they are here to smell them. Flex Alexander played a big role in the success of '90s and early '00s classic Black sitcoms. Many fans know him as Flex Washington, Breanna Barnes' father, on One on One. The series created one of the best fictional father-daughter duos to air on television.
Did you know Alexander's first television role was in the short-lived 1993 sitcom Where I Live? The series starred Doug E. Doug as Douglas St. Martin, a Trinidadian American teenager living in Harlem. He lived with his parents and his younger sister. It focuses on Douglas's misadventures with his best friends, Reggie (Alexander) and Malcolm (Shaun Baker), and is actually similar to Doug E. Doug's childhood.
Alexander's character, Reggie, was Vonzella's crush, and she made sure to let the young guy know that she had heart eyes for him. This was a running theme in the series, kind of like Nikki Parker's pursuit of Professor Oglevee in The Parkers.
Although the series was popular among Black audiences, it didn't reach the level needed to stay on the air and was canceled shortly after. However, this role would lead to many more television and film appearances for the young actor. He was on an episode of Sister, Sister and starred as the original Darnell, Maya's husband, on Girlfriends.
